Under the Sea ~ Into the A, B, Sea!

If you are anything like me, when you read the title of this blog post, you had the Disney song “Under the Sea” pop into your head. Since we started our Under the Sea theme, that song has been constantly in my head! We started our unit a couple of weeks before Christmas break. We had a blast learning about different sea creatures and reading stories like Humphrey the Lost Whale, The Rainbow Fish, and many more! Throughout our unit, our class created a variety of fun, easy crafts that the students really seemed to enjoy.

Oh boy! Oh boy! I have been busy and have a REAL treat for you! I have partnered with Ellison Education to feature one of a teacher’s favorite things – a die cut machine! But not JUST for teachers and not just ANY die cut machine – this is their Ellison AllStar SuperStar machine, and it is PERFECT for scrapbookers, small schools, and homeschoolers. It is completely portable and extremely affordable!

Ellison generously sent me an Ellison AllStar SuperStar machine and some dies to try out! They have a large selection of dies to choose from too! After browsing their large selection, I chose some that would fit perfectly with our “Under the Sea” unit: a shell, a sand castle, a shovel, a pail, and a variety of sea creature dies. Click the links below to check out these fantastic dies!

The machine is very easy to use! All you need is the machine, a cutting pad, and a die along with your desired paper. Simply place the cutting pad, then die (pad facing up), next paper, and finally the other cutting pad on top. Push it through the machine while turning the handle, and BAM! – it cuts your paper to your chosen die! It’s magical!

Not only did I use these amazing dies to create a fun, calm, peaceful, and adventurous display case of marine life, but I also used them to create some educational products that are great for centers, small group instruction, or whole group instruction.

Addition in a Nut “Shell”

Use the shell dies to create this fun and simple addition practice! The students must only place a clothespin on the number sentence if the sum is equal to the number in the middle of the shell. Make it a self-checking center by writing the sum of each number sentence on the back of the shell. Simple, quick, and easy – did I mention fun too?

Fun, Easy ‘Shell’rific Word Family Activity!

In Kindergarten we are currently focusing on word families. Each day, we focus on a new word family and write down as many words as we can. These word family shell cards are a great independent activity for early finishers or for any center or small group activity.

CVC Sand Castle Pocket Chart Activity

There are so many things that you can do with these dies! Why not use them to practice blending or segmenting CVC words? My students absolutely loved working with these! The activity is also self-checking with the CVC word written on the back of the sand castle. Color code each word for easy setup and cleanup!

Decorate until you can’t decorate any more!

These dies are not only great for creating educational resources, but they are also super fun to decorate. Use self-adhesive jewels to create these fun pieces of treasure!

Throughout our “Under the Sea” unit, my students created a jiggly jellyfish, a stealthy shark, and a flashing fish! These crafts were simple, fun, and affordable! Check out the display case I put together over Christmas break. Enjoy!

Remember: When life gives you troubles… blow bubbles! Have a great week!
