As you know, the whole month of August is like a Sunday night for most teachers. Teachers are frantically getting their classrooms ready for the upcoming school year and some of you have already been back to school for a couple of weeks now! Today I am excited to share with you 3 back to school tips/tricks.
The first day of school can not only be scary for the child, but the parents too. Last year my colleague and I sent these fun, creative cards home with an apple to every child’s parents. These were from Kim Adsit’s Open House Bundle. The parents really enjoyed them and I think it alleviated some stress and put a smile on their face. Making sure that parents understand that they play a vital role in their child’s education is very important. This is a great way to show parents that you appreciate all their help and support throughout the year.
My colleague and I also sent this goodie bag home with each child on the first day of school. This is a great way to show your students how special they are to you and what you expect of them in Kindergarten. Both of these ideas are great for building relationships with your students and their parents.

If you haven’t heard of a Xyron Machine, then you don’t know what you’ve been missing. This is a teacher must-have item, and it has made labeling my classroom containers a breeze. My colleague introduced me to this amazing machine and I can’t tell you how many times I use it throughout the year. I buy the permanent adhesive refill cartridges for the machine. This machine turns your regular paper, cardstock, or construction paper into a sticker. It’s super sticky on one side and normal paper on the other. Pictured above is one of my binder covers that I place on the outside of their take-home binders. I simply laminate the paper, run it through my Xyron Machine, and peel off the paper from the Xyron film. After placing it on any surface it does not come off easily. If you’re looking for something to adhere your printed labels to your containers, this is the machine!

How awesome are these Quiet Critters? This is a perfect back to school classroom management idea for your classroom. As teachers, we sometimes want some quiet time to work one-on-one with a student or small group during independent practice. These little critters are perfect for this! Pass out a Quiet Critter to each child during independent work time. The students must be quiet during this time or they lose the privilege of having a quiet critter watch them work. This can also be used as a class reward! To make your Quiet Critters you will need the following materials:

Pom Poms (Variety of Sizes)
Googly Eyes
Foam Sheets
White Stamens

Use a glass/plastic jar or a metal bucket to store your Quiet Critters in. Check out my freebie below for a Quiet Critter Label in my TeachersPayTeachers Store. Happy crafting!

Remember to enter our BIG giveaway, you need to head over to THE PRIMARY PACK first, that is if you haven’t already started there! You will use the secret code to enter the rafflecopter on The Primary Pack at the end of the hop. You need to collect the letters from us IN ORDER, so please make sure that you start from the beginning of our hop. Back to School Motivation and Inspiration

Feeling stressed in today’s society is pretty much inevitable. But how stressed you get or how often this happens are two things that you can have a great influence over. How many of you are starting to feel stressed or overwhelmed because school is starting soon? I know I am!
Some of you had your first day of school today, and you came home wondering if your students will ever learn to line up in a straight line instead of looking like a snake or ever remember to push in their chair. It’s things like this that can sometimes make us frustrated. However, it is important to remember it will get better. It takes time, effort, energy, and practice. Finding that balance can sometimes be difficult. Find your #tribe or a group of people who care, support, and encourage you. These are the people that care about you and want you to succeed. Being a teacher is never an easy job as some people may think. It can actually be quite stressful and tiring. A lot of work does go into teaching and preparing lessons and activities. Most people don’t see that side of the job. It can make it difficult to have a work-life balance, meaning that feelings of depression and stress can creep in if we’re not careful. No teachers want to feel like this, which is why it’s important that they find treatments that make them feel more relaxed and creative. I know one of my colleagues always uses platinum cookies ( to make herself less stressed. This method seems to be widely used in other professions too, so it might be worth looking into this method if you’re feeling depressed. There are other methods available too, so don’t let your profession become overwhelming. Teachers do have a stressful job but don’t let it take over your life.

It is so true when they say that the whole month of August for teachers is like a Sunday night before school starts. I know many teachers are diligently working in their classrooms to get everything ready for the first day of school. However, it’s important to consider this:

“Don’t let your classroom define yourself as a teacher. Just be YOU!” – Male Kindergarten Teacher
This can be difficult to do. We all want to create a fun, positive, and engaging learning environment in which our students will learn. Am I right? However, it is important to remember that there is not one thing in your classroom that can truly encompass the joy, happiness, struggles, hardships, and passion of a teacher. YOU can only define yourself.
Today I am partnering up with Boogie Board to bring you some inspirational quotes using my Boogie Board Sync 9.7 eWriter. Who doesn’t love doodling? I recently became obsessed with using Boogie Boards to write inspirational quotes, notes, messages, and much more. The best part about the Boogie Board Sync is that you can save your work from your tablet straight to your phone, computer, or iPad with just a click of a button. How amazing is that? I hope these quotes motivate you to be the best teacher that you can be!
How many of you often feel overwhelmed with how much is expected of teachers year after year? It’s inevitable. Finding that balance between work and your personal life can be difficult. However, it is important to gain more knowledge and learn from one another. Managing my blogs, engaging in partnerships, updating my TeachersPayTeacher store, and balancing my personal life are difficult, but these things keep me going. My #tribe is what keeps me going too. Find those people in your life that share the same interests and passion as you, and collaborate, inspire, and motivate one another to become better in the field of education.
This quote really does not need any explanation. You are one of the most influential people in your students’ lives. As an educator, you spend more time during the day with a child than the parents do. They look to you for guidance, encouragement, compassion, and strength. To this day I still remember who my teachers were from preschool to 12th grade. It’s those teachers who have inspired me to be the teacher I am today. They taught me to pass on the love of learning to my students and to create lifelong learners. I challenge you to motivate your students to learn, explore, discover, and investigate the world in which we live in
I came across this quote on the TeachersPayTeachers Facebook page. This quote really resonated with me. As teachers, we sometimes have a student who takes longer to master an objective or is struggling to keep up. Do we ever give up on that child? No. Do we continue to work with that child and encourage them? Yes! If you believe in your students and they can see it, it may give them the motivation or desire to keep going.

Greg from The Kindergarten Smorgasboard and Kayla from Top Dog Teaching are on a mission to take over the conversation about education. They are challenging every single teacher out there to join their mission: Each and every day post a picture (you don’t have to show kids…) of something amazing that happened in your classroom. Post it on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and use the hashtag #happyclassrooms. It is a great way to interact and share your experiences with people who are going through the same thing. As a result, you may also decide to get instagram hashtags for your posts to guarantee that your photos are seen by the wider community. Including a variety of them on your post could help to do this, and you can connect and engage with people who know exactly what you’re going through. If you don’t have a picture, tell a story about something positive that happened in your classroom. USE THE HASHTAG #happyclassrooms

For more information on #happyclassrooms check out Greg’s blog post: Click Here

Together we can change the way we think, believe, motivate, and inspire!
